A fuller, more expressive Yamaha upright piano - designed for progressing players who want greater depth, power and control

Yamaha B20 Upright Piano - A Fuller, More Expressive Yamaha Acoustic Piano for Progressing Players

Key Features - What’s New in the Yamaha B20

  • Larger 116cm cabinet for increased tonal depth and presence compared to the B10
  • Extended bass strings delivering a stronger, fuller low end
  • Bigger soundboard for improved resonance and wider dynamic range
  • More powerful, expressive tone while retaining Yamaha clarity and balance
  • Greater sound projection - ideal for more advanced practice and performance
  • Refined NEW B Series design developed with input from players, teachers and technicians
  • Solid spruce soundboard for warmth, responsiveness and long-term stability
  • Reinforced cabinet structure with five back posts for improved tonal support
  • Same highly responsive Yamaha action for precise control and technique development
  • Consistent, even tone across all registers for expressive playing

The Yamaha B20 upright piano is the next step up in the NEW B Series, offering a larger, more powerful acoustic piano designed for progressing pianists. With increased cabinet height and enhanced tonal depth, it builds on the clarity and balance of the B10 while delivering a richer, more expressive playing experience.

At 116cm tall, this compact yet more substantial Yamaha upright piano produces a fuller sound with greater projection and presence. It is ideal for developing players who want more dynamic range and tonal depth, while still retaining the control and responsiveness that make Yamaha uprights so reliable for learning and practice.

The NEW B Series has been refined through collaboration with players, teachers, technicians and piano specialists, resulting in a design that focuses on real musical use. In the B20, this translates into a larger soundboard and longer bass strings, helping to create a more resonant, powerful tone across the keyboard.

The sound is warm, balanced and expressive, with a stronger bass foundation and improved dynamic range. This makes the B20 particularly well suited to students progressing beyond the beginner stage, as well as home players who want a more immersive acoustic experience.

A responsive Yamaha action ensures precise control and smooth repetition, supporting the development of technique and expression. Each key is part of a finely engineered mechanism designed for consistency, allowing the player to focus fully on musical interpretation.

The tone is shaped by Yamaha’s refined hammer design, inspired by their flagship concert grand pianos, helping maintain clarity and sustain across all registers. This ensures a stable, even sound whether playing softly or at full dynamic range.

Built with a solid spruce soundboard and reinforced internal structure, the B20 is designed for long-term durability, tuning stability and consistent acoustic performance. Five back posts strengthen the cabinet, supporting sound projection and structural integrity over time.

Practical features include a wide music rest for larger scores and a soft-close fallboard for safe, smooth everyday use.

The Yamaha B20 is also available with Silent (SC3) and TransAcoustic (TC3) systems, allowing for silent headphone practice or enhanced tonal control when required.
