Yamaha Silent Pianos

With all Yamaha silent pianos you can practice without disturbing others! Simply plug your headphones in whilst a mute rail stops the hammers just before they hit the strings and you then play with the sound of Yamaha’s CFX concert grand and Bosendorfer grand piano!

Sophisticated Grand Piano Samples

Binaural sampling technology has been used to pick up every detail of sound within a recording of a Bosendorfer and CFX concert grand piano so that you can play using a top quality grand piano sample. Binaural sampling is when a microphone is recording from where you would normally be sitting at the piano.

This advanced grand piano sample has also been created using Virtual Resonance Modelling to reproduce the reverberation of sound within the body of a grand piano, including the resonance from the soundboard and each set of strings connected to each note as they are played. Key release has also been closely captured.

Experience realistic playing through headphones

During silent mode, hearing the piano through your headphones is all made possible through Yamaha's advanced sensor systems that detect the movement of each key. Every key motion created throughout your playing is sent the digital tone module as MIDI data. Grand expression modelling is used to reproduce the variety of tonal responses that you get from the strings and hammers according to how you press and release the keys and move the damper pedal. You won't even be able to feel that the silent system is turned on because there isn't any physical contact between the keys and sensors. The Quick Escape System also creates a more responsive touch. This means your playing can remain fluid and natural even when silent mode is active!

Additional features

You can play along to 20 different automatic bass and percussion accompaniments and also record and playback your performances. You can record audio (WAV) files and use the built in USB audio recorder. You can make up to 10 recordings in total! There are also plenty of pre-installed sounds for you to play around with. You can even connect to the Smart Pianist app via bluetooth where you can adjust volume and tone and also play built-in songs.

SC3

In the SC3 silent systems, the digital sounds are produced using Yamaha's articulation sensor system located beneath the keys. Binaural Sampling and Virtual Resonance Modelling have been used to create high quality piano samples during silent mode, and Grand Expression Modelling has been used to reproduce your playing through headphones as accurately as possible. You can also connect to external speakers and other devices via USB and also connect to Smart Pianist App via bluetooth. Along with the CFX Grand and Bösendorfer Imperial sound samples, 12 different sound types are available.

The SC3 silent system is optionally available as an in-built system within any upright piano in the B model series B1 , B2, B3 and the GB1-K Grand Piano.

SH3

The SH3 silent system also has non-contact hammer sensors (2-point detection optical fiber sensors) as well as key sensors . There are also sensors that measure the movement of the sostenuto pedal as well as the damper and soft pedal. Along with the CFX Grand and Bösendorfer Imperial sound samples, 25 types of sound are available ranging from E-pianos, Organs, strings and choirs!

The SH3 silent system is optionally available as an in-built system within any grand piano in the CX, GC series and with upright pianos in the P, U, YUS, and SE series and with the SU7 model.

TA3 -TransAcoustic Piano

What is it?

A TransAcosutic piano can be played as a normal acoustic piano, in silent mode with headphones and also in TransAcoustic mode which mixes digital sounds with the resonances of the soundboard and allows you to control the volume. Playing silently with headphones is a great feature, but there is so much more you can do with a TransAcoustic piano other than playing silently.
